English Parish Records

The history of these records goes back to 1538 when a system was established for clergy to register all christenings, marriages, and burials.

 What You Will Learn:

These records hold a wealth of information for genealogists, each person was assigned to a parish, regardless of their faith.

English: Parish Records will guide you through the reading and interpreting of the records, the history affecting the registers, and discuss the other items that are included in the registers.

You’ll become familiar with the abbreviations and Latin terms found in the registers as well as the history of the Julian and Gregorian calendar systems and the Lost 11 Days.

The course includes a comprehensive list of recommended reading for further study as well as several transcription forms to assist your research.

This course can be taken as an elective or for personal interest. It is included in our English Records Certificate.
