Birth, marriage, and death records are often the first things a genealogist looks for.
But there are many other records available to build your family’s story.
American: Vital Records, Understanding and Using the Records will point you in the direction of some of the lesser-known records that are available for your research.
What You Will Learn:
Beginning with the history and creation of vital records in the United States, you’ll learn what information to look for in many of the documents as well as proper document citation. Divorce records, Social Security Death Index, military, and immigration are just a few of the many records which are discussed.
The importance of following leads from one document to another is explored, as are online databases, indexes, and family sources that may have been passed down through generations.
This course can be taken for personal interest or as an elective. It is one of the courses included in the American Records Certificate.
