April Fool’s Day has been celebrated world-wide for centuries. I did some online research to see what I could find out about the silliest day of the year, and, although there are many speculations, its origin remains a mystery.
Some of the theories I found include it dating back to 1582 when France switched from the Gregorian Calendar to the Julian Calendar, it has been connected to festivals that were held at the end of March in ancient Rome, and some feel it could be linked to the vernal equinox (the first day of spring) in the Northern Hemisphere.
Wikipedia and History.com have some great information on April Fool’s Day, including some of more outrageous pranks that have been played in past years.
