Australian: Birth, Death, and Marriage Records

Birth, Death, and Marriage records form the basis of genealogical research. These records are collected and recorded by various agencies in different countries.

Australian: Births, Deaths, and Marriages focusses on the records that have been gathered by churches as parish records, as well as the records gathered by colonial, state, and territory governments. Why the information isn’t always accurate is also explored.

What You Will Learn:

You’ll begin with the history of settlement in Australia, parish records, and what information is recorded on civil record certificates. The various records of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia are examined.

Each module discusses the contents and history of the records in each territory, as well as exploring available indexes, and alternate locations to finding them. Transcription of the records, research strategies, websites of interest are included in the course.

This course can be taken for personal interest or as an elective. It is one of the courses included in the Australian Records Certificate.
