Take Your Research Beyond Vital Statistics and Church Records
There is a multitude of resources out there for you to comb through to build not only your family tree but also your family’s story!
Canadian: Local History and Special Collections will open your eyes and research notebook so you can start filling in the blanks.
What You Will Learn:
Throughout the six modules of this course, you will be introduced to resources you may not be aware of.
You’ll begin by examining the Canadiana Collection along with several local and family histories. From there your explorations will include smaller archives, fraternal organizations and into both professional and family associations. Provincial historic sites, medical records, funeral homes and cemetery records are valuable records not to be missed.
Some of the many resources that are also discussed include maps, gazetteers, post office databases, Library and Archives Canada, and photographs and photographers.
Each module includes a list of websites as well as an appendix with detailed descriptions of specific sites for your ongoing research.
Canadian: Local History and Special Collections is included in our Canadian Records Certificate Program. It can also be taken for personal interest or as an elective towards any of our certificate programs.
