Historic Census Records hold a Wealth of Genealogical Material
These important records not only help you find your ancestors, but they can also give you a snapshot of their lives.
English: Census Records including Wales will take you from early census records beginning in 1801 through to the 1939 National Register of England and Wales, including the 1986 Domesday Project.
What You Will Learn:
This eight-module course begins with the history of census taking, different websites with census records, and what information the records hold.
Along with census records, you will also explore several street indexes, valuation maps, and a case study.
Research questions that are addressed include why you should examine every available census, what information the schedule columns include, and what to do if you find errors or double entries.
Your course contains information on recording and documenting your findings as well as a comprehensive list of websites to further your research, and suggested books for further reading.
This course can be taken as an elective or for personal interest. It is included in our English Records Certificate program.
