Introducing Brenda Wheeler, PLCGS

Brenda Wheeler, PLCGS is a Professional Genealogist and is our Director of English Studies and Australian Studies. She is  a Student Mentor who works directly with our students taking the Analysis and Skills courses. Brenda has updated several of our English Records courses and hosts our Palaeography Virtual Meetings as well.

Brenda grew up in England where she became a qualified veterinary nurse. Brenda had plenty of dog and cat pedigree charts to practice her beginning genealogy skills on.

After moving to Australia in 1979 she continued to work as a veterinary nurse. During that time, she won the title of Australian Veterinary Nurse of the Year and represented Australia at several functions overseas.

She was co-founder and first president of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (VNCA) which is now the official representative body for Australian veterinary nurses.

Following a riding accident, she decided on a retirement hobby of family history research. Brenda has been with IIGS since the late 1990s. After registering to do 'just a few courses' the genealogy bug bit and she hasn't looked back since!

In her spare time, Brenda learns Latin and works on jigsaws and logical puzzles.

Fun Facts About Brenda:

Brenda loves to go on cruises; she has built an amazing career by giving Genealogy Lectures on Cruise Ships! Between working with IIGS and her Lecturing career, Brenda is still waiting to retire!
