Have you thought about writing your family history but don’t know how to start?
“Life of Our Ancestors”, will get you on track!
This is a course that covers many aspects of writing. You will explore such things as who your reader is, what the focus of your writing will be, copyright, ethics, and more.
What will you learn?
Beginning with the basic question, “Why should we write our family’s story?”, “Life of Our Ancestors” will guide you through the steps of writing through to publishing.
Exploring individuals and families is more than names and dates. We’ll take you through creating timelines, where to look to enhance your research, and what special considerations may need to be taken in terms of family dynamics.
You will look at the history of the times you are writing about and how to record the information to incorporate it into your story.
After creating your timelines and gathering your information, you will begin to write. Creating an outline, deciding on your format, project and time management, as well as writing tips on telling the story are looked at in detail. The layout of your project is discussed along with proofreading, editing, and cover design. Different publishing options are explored such as print-on-demand, private publishers, and websites.
Throughout the course, you will find many websites related to writing, books for recommended reading, and where to go for writing support.
This course is an elective that can be added to any of our certificate programs or taken for personal interest.
